Passive Voice

Pengertian

Passive voice adalah suatu bentuk kalimat di mana subjek kalimat adalah yang menerima aksi, bukan yang melakukan aksi. Dalam bahasa Indonesia, kalimat pasif ditandai dengan adanya kata depan "di-" atau "ter-" di awal kata kerja.

Rumus

Rumus passive voice dalam bahasa Inggris adalah sebagai berikut:

Simple present tense:
Subject + to be (is/am/are) + past participle

Present continuous tense:
Subject + to be (is/am/are) + being + past participle

Present perfect tense:
Subject + has/have + been + past participle

Simple past tense:
Subject + was/were + past participle

Past continuous tense:
Subject + was/were + being + past participle

Past perfect tense:
Subject + had + been + past participle

Future tense:
Subject + will/shall + be + past participle

Future continuous tense:
Subject + will/shall + be + being + past participle

Future perfect tense:
Subject + will/shall + have + been + past participle

Contoh

Berikut adalah beberapa contoh kalimat aktif dan kalimat pasif dalam bahasa Inggris:

Kalimat aktif

1. The man is eating an apple.
2. The dog chased the cat.
3. The teacher taught the students.

Kalimat pasif

1. An apple is being eaten by the man.
2. The cat was chased by the dog.
3. The students were taught by the teacher.

Perbedaan dengan Active Voice

Passive voice dan active voice memiliki beberapa perbedaan, antara lain:

Subjek
Pada active voice, subjek adalah pelaku aksi.
Pada passive voice, subjek adalah penerima aksi.

Kata kerja
Pada active voice, kata kerja menunjukkan pelaku aksi.
Pada passive voice, kata kerja menunjukkan penerima aksi.

Penggunaan

Passive voice dapat digunakan dalam berbagai situasi, antara lain:

Untuk menghindari menyebutkan pelaku aksi
Contoh: "The house was built in 1990." (Rumah itu dibangun pada tahun 1990.)

Untuk menekankan penerima aksi
Contoh: "The injured man was taken to the hospital." (Pria yang terluka dibawa ke rumah sakit.)

Untuk membuat kalimat lebih formal
Contoh: "The report was submitted by the secretary." (Laporan itu diserahkan oleh sekretaris.)
